This strategy is adapted to Identify children in sex work, women in sex work and their children in the city of Bangalore. Our field staffs including peer staff knows the places where they can identify fresh children and youth entering or forced into sex trade. We have divided to whole Bangalore in to five major areas namely Shivajinagar area, KR Market area, Majestic area, Bangalore East area, Byappanahalli and Ulsoor area. Our field staffs also visit brothels and other areas where children/ Youth who are already in sex work to identify and rescue them. As soon as the children are identified and motivated, they are referred to our clinic at Shivajinagar. The clinic established mainly for counselling, Treatment, referral and follow up. The clinical facilities can be availed not only by female sex workers and the community people but also by MSM and Transsexuals.
Identification
Our field staff identify new children arriving from different places to enter into the flesh trade by force or unknowingly. Our field staff also make door to door visit to identify children and young women in sex work. They have also built rapport with some of the brothels, pimps (Agents) and police department so that they can contact children and young women who are under the clutches of this difficult circumstance. After identification our field staff prepare an Individual Intervention Plan for each person. If necessary a few of them will be sent to our Home Care Center and others will be given Community Based Care and Support.
Rescue
Once the Children / Women are identified the first step would be to rescue them from the situation and provide them alternate arrangements with conducive environment. Among the identified children/ young women if they are locals our staff provide Community Based Care by organizing counselling sessions and refer them for screening and follow up treatment. Children who come from other places will be referred to our clinic or to the Home Care Center as per their need.
Counselling
We have a sexual health clinic in the heart of the city. We have qualified and experience doctors and professional counsellors. Regular counselling sessions at various levels is the unique part our program. All the proceedings are recorded for necessary follow up and future reference. The clinic is also open for other people living in the nearby communities.
Medical Care
After the screening, the health status of each individual would be recorded and our doctors would start treating them with necessary medication and follow up. On an average each day 10 to 12 new patients make use of these facilities and the treatment given for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and associated health problems. All the Patient’s health status are recorded and kept under strict confidentiality. The field staff make regular visit to the houses of the patients to ensure that they take the medicines regularly and to the clinic for follow up treatment and counselling as per the schedule. The strategy followed in the clinic is Full Treatment, Complete Treatment and Partner Treatment as per the need and ABC method of treatment (A- Abstinence, B – Be faithful to single partner and C – Condom use)
Referral Services
Those persons who are severely affected and need specialized care are referred to either Government Hospital or other reputed Hospitals for HIV screening, ART and other treatment. All the resources and welfare facilities available with the Government or being fully utilized for the benefit of the identify children and young women.
Family Reunion
Since the Children and women are away from home, the first initiative would be to find out their willingness to go back to their family. If they are willing immediate steps would be taken either to call the parents to take the children back or we would make arrangements to ensure that they are re united with the family.
Follow up
We make all possible efforts to go hand in hand with each child to ensure that the child is well settled in life as per the intervention plan.
